The Governors General Independence Concert Series
At
Christ Church Cathedral
Nassau, The Bahamas
GGICS Home
As it has been for centuries, The Church, primarily through its cathedrals
has been a great supporter of the arts in general and of music in
particular.

Christ Church Cathedral, through its choirs, has been a center for church
music however  in years past, many  other forms of culture, including
drama, have been performed here at Christ Church.

In this vein, we at Christ Church Cathedral are seeking to preserve this
legacy by establishing the Governors General Independence Concert
Series(GGICS) Former Governor
s General
Sir Clifford Darling GCVO., JP and
Sir Orville Turnquest GCMG., QC., JP., LLB
have agreed to serve as patrons of the series.

The first  of these events is scheduled for July 2005.  Mr. Matthew
Steynor, a former organist at the  Cathedral will return to give a recital
featuring the music of American composers, in celebration of American
Independence and under the patronage of Mr. John Rood, Ambassador to The
Bahamas.  On 10th July, Mr. Cleveland Williams, renowned Bahamian
Baritone and an alumnus of Christ Church Cathedral Men and Boys Choir, will
perform in concert.  His voice recital will be a musical tribute to
Bahamian Independence.

The series will be  an annual event, therefore we are seeking donations to
endow the series.  Of course, the potential benefit to the community from
this initial investment will continue  for  years to come.

The proceeds from both of the July 2005 recitals will be donated to the
medical fund of  Mr. Donald Campbell, a faithful member of our music
department, who has just undergone back surgery and will require extensive
rehabilitation.

We therefore  urge you to make a contribution to the development of the
arts, particularly the music of  Christ Church Cathedral by participating
in one of the sponsorship programmes, which is detailed on our Sponsorship
page.
